Open Mercato implementations: a CRM built around your process, not the other way round

Open Mercato is an open-source framework for building CRM and ERP. It provides ready-made multi-tenancy, roles and search, and the rest is added as modules. We used it to build a CRM for the startup accelerator of the Łódź Special Economic Zone: applications, evaluations, mentoring and reports in one system.

What Open Mercato gives you out of the box

Things you do not have to write from scratch in every CRM.

Multi-tenancy

One instance, many companies or departments with separated data.

Roles and permissions

RBAC, change log, encryption of personal data.

Search

Meilisearch with typo tolerance and a separate index for each client.

Custom fields and modules

Custom fields, data import, API and webhooks. We add missing features as modules.

Case study

CRM for the ŁSSE startup accelerator

We replaced spreadsheets, document folders, emails and separate task tools with one system: from a startup's application to the survey a year after the program.

Calls for applications

Public application form for startups and handling of submissions.

Evaluations

Expert evaluation of submissions with scoring and criteria.

Acceleration program

A Kanban board for each program edition, startups assigned to boards.

Milestones

Milestones, tasks and deliverables of each startup, with a Gantt schedule.

Monitoring

Surveys 3, 6 and 12 months after the program ends.

Reporting

Program KPIs and reports, calendar, email, Slack and SMS notifications.

Open Mercato or an off-the-shelf CRM?

If you sell through a typical funnel, HubSpot or Pipedrive will do the job faster. We choose Open Mercato when the process does not fit an off-the-shelf CRM, when the data has to stay on your server, or when paying for every user stops making sense.

At ŁSSE the process decided it: applications with a public form, expert evaluations, milestones and surveys after the program. No off-the-shelf CRM had this without heavy customization. We also build similar custom systems as web applications.

How we work

How we implement Open Mercato

01

Requirements map

We compare your requirements with what Open Mercato gives you out of the box. For ŁSSE the framework covered 50–60% of the system before we wrote the first module.

02

Specification

Data model, roles, screens and automations broken down into tasks before the first module is built.

03

Modules

We add the missing modules, cut the unneeded ones (e.g. shop modules) and keep list performance in check.

04

Review and tests

Code review for permissions and security, automated tests, then deployment.

Alongside your systems

A CRM on Open Mercato without replacing the systems that work

We add Open Mercato where a process has no tool. We do not touch a core that works well.

API and webhooks

The framework has an API and webhooks, so the CRM can exchange data with the tools your company already has.

Data import

We move data from spreadsheets and current tools by import. Your team does not start from zero.

Only what is missing

We cut the modules you do not need and write custom ones only for a process nothing you have covers.

Support for your IT

We pin the framework version and update it after testing. Your own IT department stays the owner of the systems, and we add the experience from our deployments.

FAQ

Questions about Open Mercato

What is Open Mercato?

+
It is an open-source framework for building CRM and ERP systems, written in TypeScript on Next.js, with PostgreSQL, Redis and Meilisearch. It provides ready-made multi-tenancy, roles, a change log and search. Business logic is added as modules.

Open Mercato or an off-the-shelf CRM such as HubSpot or Pipedrive?

+
An off-the-shelf CRM wins when your process is typical sales. Open Mercato makes sense when the process is unusual (e.g. startup applications and mentoring), the data has to stay with you, or you do not want to pay per user.

Where can Open Mercato be hosted?

+
We host the ŁSSE CRM on our own server, in Docker containers. Open Mercato does not dictate hosting: it is a standard stack (Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, Meilisearch) that we can also set up on your server or in a cloud of your choice in the EU.

How long does a CRM implementation on Open Mercato take?

+
It depends on the number of custom modules. We preliminarily estimated the CRM for the ŁSSE accelerator at approx. 12–14 weeks of one developer's work. The framework covered 50–60% of the requirements.

Is Open Mercato suitable for serious deployments?

+
Yes. It is an actively developed open-source project with ready-made multi-tenancy, permissions, audit and encryption of personal data, which is what a public institution requires. We pin the framework version and update it after testing, so the client's system does not change without control.

Do we have to replace our current systems to adopt Open Mercato?

+
No. We adapt to what works for you and add a layer next to it. Open Mercato has an API, webhooks and data import, so it can work with your existing tools, and your IT department stays the owner of its systems.
